Artwork Installation

Artwork installation should be neat, level and secure, whether it is one framed piece above a couch or a full gallery wall. Bright Frames handles the measuring, fixing and final placement so your work sits properly on the wall and stays that way.

Artwork Installation

What the installation service covers

Our artwork installation service is for framed prints, photographs, canvases, mirrors and mixed wall displays. We plan the layout, check the wall surface, choose suitable fixings and hang each item with care so the finished result looks balanced and sits safely. This is useful for homes, offices, studios, reception areas and galleries where the final placement matters as much as the frame itself.

We work with plastered walls, brick, concrete and drywall, and we consider practical conditions such as load-shedding darkened spaces, uneven older walls and coastal humidity in places like Durban and Cape Town. If a wall needs a specific fixing or an item is too heavy for a standard hook, we advise on the safest method before any drilling begins.

  • Single pieces or grouped wall arrangements
  • Level positioning for portrait and landscape formats
  • Suitable fixings for light, medium and heavy items
  • Placement that suits viewing height and room use

How we prepare the wall and the artwork

Good installation starts before the first hole is drilled. We confirm the dimensions of each piece, check the frame weight and inspect the hanging hardware already attached to the item. If required, we fit additional hanging wire, D-rings or security fittings to match the wall and the weight of the work. For galleries and commercial spaces, we can work to a hanging plan so the spacing stays consistent from one wall to the next.

We also check the wall for services, weak plaster, loose paint and areas where moisture or salt air may affect the fixing over time. In older buildings around Johannesburg, Pretoria or the inner suburbs, this extra step helps avoid damage to the wall and reduces the chance of a frame shifting after installation.

  • Measure wall size, ceiling height and sightline
  • Mark centre points and spacing before drilling
  • Confirm weight, balance and hanging point position
  • Use fixings suited to the wall surface and load

Step by step on the day of installation

On the day, we arrive with the tools, fixings and protective materials needed for the job. The process starts with a final check of the layout and a discussion about any height preferences or groupings. We then mark the wall, fit the hanging points, mount each item and make fine adjustments until the line is level and the spacing looks right. Small changes of even 5 mm can make a wall feel uneven, so we take time at the end to correct alignment by eye and with a level.

For gallery hanging, we can set up repeated heights and clean spacing between works so the overall display reads well across a room. For homes, we often use a single focal piece, a pair of works or a family collection arranged in a more relaxed pattern. Either way, the aim is a clean result with no rattling, sagging or crooked corners.

  • Final layout check before fixing starts
  • Drilling and mounting with dust control where possible
  • Level checks and spacing adjustments
  • Clean-up of packaging and light debris after the job

Turnaround for homes, offices and galleries

Turnaround depends on the number of pieces, the wall type and whether extra preparation is needed. A single framed work in Parkhurst or Sandton can often be completed in one visit, while a full gallery wall or a commercial installation may need a scheduled appointment with more than one installer. We also plan around access times for offices, landlords and gallery opening hours.

For larger jobs, we usually recommend sending through the wall measurements, number of items and photos of the space first. That helps us estimate the time needed and arrive with the correct fixings. In most cases, straightforward residential installations are completed in a few hours, while larger collections may take a full day depending on spacing and wall conditions.

  • Single items: often same-day or next available slot
  • Small home groups: usually a few hours
  • Gallery or office walls: longer scheduled visits
  • Complex installations: allow for a site check first

Pricing approach and what affects the quote

Pricing is based on the number of pieces, the type of wall, the weight and size of the works, and whether any extra fittings or repairs are needed before hanging. A light framed print on a brick wall is simpler than a large mirror on drywall, so the quote follows the actual work involved rather than a flat one-size-fits-all rate. Collection and delivery can be added where required.

We keep pricing clear from the start. If a frame needs fresh hanging wire, a mirror needs specialised fixings, or a wall needs extra support, we say so before the work begins. That helps avoid surprises and allows you to plan properly for homes, galleries and business premises across Johannesburg, Pretoria, Midrand, Cape Town and Durban.

  • Quoted per piece or per installation project
  • Wall type and access affect labour time
  • Extra fixings or repairs are priced separately
  • Useful for one-off homes and larger display walls

Care after installation and maintenance intervals

Once the artwork is up, a quick check every few months is a good habit, especially in busy rooms or buildings with changes in temperature and humidity. In coastal areas, fixings and metal hardware may need closer attention because salt air can affect them over time. In air-conditioned offices, repeated wall vibration or cleaning can also shift a piece slightly, so it is worth checking alignment now and then.

We recommend a simple maintenance interval of three to six months for most homes and offices, and sooner if the work is near doors, passages or direct sun. If a frame starts to tilt, glass rattle develops, or a wall hook loosens, it is best to have it corrected early rather than waiting for damage. We can also rehang works after repainting, renovations or office moves.

  • Check level and hook tightness every 3 to 6 months
  • Inspect after repainting or building work
  • Watch for humidity changes and loose fixings
  • Reposition pieces if the room layout changes

Questions we get asked

Can you install just one framed artwork?

Yes. We handle single pieces as well as full wall arrangements, and we make sure the item is level and secure before we leave.

Do you install artwork in commercial spaces and galleries?

Yes. We work with homes, offices and galleries, including repeat spacing, height consistency and hanging plans for larger displays.

What if my wall is not suitable for standard hooks?

We assess the wall first and use the right fixings for the load and surface. If extra support is needed, we will advise on that before installation starts.
